Rock Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel temples
Egypt, Aswan
The rock of Abu Simbel is located 280 kilometers south of Aswan. Two temples are carved on it - the Large, dedicated to Ramses II, and the Small, dedicated to his first wife Nefertari.

On both sides at the entrance to the Great Temple there are four 20-meter statues of the pharaoh sitting on the throne. In the last hall there are four sculptures: Amon, Ra and Ptah with the faces of Ramses II and the pharaoh himself. In front of the Small Temple there are six 10-meter sculptures of Ramses and Nefertari.

From 1964 to 1968, the rock was moved to a new location due to the threat of flooding due to the construction of the upper damAswan hydroelectric complex, now it is higher and farther from the Nile .

To get to Abu Simbel from Hurghada had to spend a sleepless night, but the trip was worth it. The temple complex impresses with its grandeur and power no less than the pyramids in Giza and the Sphinx, if not to say that it makes a stronger impression. I highly recommend visiting for those who want to more acutely feel the history, the spirit of ancient times and the mysteries of creating majestic monuments.
