The botanical garden is located on Kitchener Island, west of Aswan. It was founded in 1898 by Lord Kitchener, owner of the island since 1890 and a great lover of nature. The garden is divided into 27 squares arranged in a checkerboard pattern. A wide variety of plants grow here. But the garden is especially famous for its palm trees, there are more than 100 species of them.
