Tallinn Zoo
Tallinna Loomaaed, Tallinn Zoo, Tallinn Zoo
Estonia, Tallinn
The Tallinn Zoo was founded on August 25, 1939. The main merit of this event belongs to the Society for the Protection of Animals and the Department of Tourism and Nature Protection.
Two years earlier, in 1937, a team of Estonian shooters had won the World Championship in Helsinki and with the "Argentine Cup" they had brought with them a trophy - a young lynx named Illu. This lynx was the first exhibition exposition, and later became the emblem of the Tallinn Zoo.
The zoo has about 350 species of fauna. The zoo specializes in rare species of the Palearctic (birds of prey, mountain ungulates, European mink, etc.).
