Freedom Square is located in the southern part of the Old Town of Tallinn. It was built in the middle of the 19th century. on the site of the Swedish bastion. In Soviet times, the square was called Victory and was built up with buildings in the style of functionalism. Now its main decoration is the Victory in the War of Liberation 1918-1920 monument. The buildings facing the square house cafes, restaurants, exhibition halls,
Scandic Palace 4* and other institutions. For convenience, benches for rest are installed along its perimeter. Also on Freedom Square are the 19th-century Yaanovskaya Church, the City Hall and the Russian Theater. Various city events are often held here: free concerts, street performances and exhibitions.
