Came here by accident - it was necessary to "kill" an hour and a half before boarding the ferry. It is strange that we have not been here before, although we regularly visit Tallinn and even, according to the local tourist tradition, rubbed the noses of copper lions on the door handles of the museum (they say that everything you want is “added” from this: )). Despite the fact that the historical museum is located in the Old Town, in the building of the Great Guild, the exposition is dedicated not only to the activities of medieval merchants. The exhibition with the loud title "The Spirit of Immortality - 1.000 Years of Estonian History" presents a little bit of everything. In the basement floor of the building - the former wine cellar of the guild - tells about the medieval life of Tallinn. Here you can admire the sword of the Tallinn executioner, and medieval merchant goods, play an interactive game about the life of the Hanseatic merchants ...Most of all I liked the weapons department - all sorts of sabers and pistols from different times.
Behind the hall with weapons there is a small room in which various little things brought to Estonia from other countries are placed. In this room, along with the mummy's brush, a real rarity is stored - Amadeus Mozart's cadenza, written by him for the Piano Concerto in 1790. This manuscript of Mozart was brought to Tallinn by the Estonian artist Gustav Adolf Gippius from Vienna, where he received it from the hands of the great composer's sister. I also really liked the numismatics room. Very interesting collection of coins and bonds. My compatriots from Ukraine will certainly be pleased to see a silversmith from the time of Yaroslav the Wise, kept with special honor in a personal showcase in a separate closet. The central hall of the museum is occupied by an interactive and entertaining exhibition where you can see the costumes and household items of the peoples inhabiting Estonia.
In general, despite the compact size of the exposition, an hour and a half spent here flew by unnoticed. Unfortunately, all exhibits are signed only in Estonian and English, but you can rent an audio guide in Russian. The price of an adult ticket is 5 euros, things can be left either in the cloakroom on the ground floor, or in a locker box in the basement of the museum (free of charge).
