The Kik-in-de-Kek tower is a 45-meter powerful artillery tower built in 1475 in Tallinn. Its name literally translates from German as "Look into the kitchen", as if stating the fact that the sentinels from the tower could see what was being cooked in the kitchens of nearby houses. During its existence, the Kiek-in-de-Kek tower has been a participant in many wars and attacks, it has been rebuilt and strengthened more than once. After its military and defensive significance was lost, the tower was used for a long time as a warehouse, storage, archive, and even residential and office space. In 1958, it was transferred to the
Tallinn City Museum and, after restoration and restoration work, a museum and a photo gallery were opened in it. The museum exposition is devoted to the history and development of Tallinn, its defensive structures and the most important military and historical events of the country.
