The free city of Christiania is located in the eastern part of Copenhagen. It is a semi-autonomous entity that emerged in 1971 when a group of hippies illegally settled an abandoned army barracks. Since then, the state has repeatedly tried to bring order here to establish national laws, but to no avail.
