Folklore festival in Passau

Das Folkloristische Festival in Passau
Germany, Passau
The small Bavarian university town of Passau, with a population of 50,000, is located near the border with Austria. Passau is called the "city of three rivers", as it is located at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, which have different colors of water, respectively: blue, green and black.
Every year on the last Sunday of April, as part of the traditional ten-day May fair, Passau hosts a folklore festival, which is attended by residents from different regions of Germany and delegations from sister cities. Dressed in national or historical costumes, whole families of several generations, the participants move through the streets of the city on foot or in horse-drawn carts in festive harness. An elegant and cheerful procession, accompanied by orchestras, starts from St. Stephen's Cathedral, after a festive service at 10.30 in the morning, and continues along the embankment to the Old Town Hall, from where it turns back along the Danube, ending at Ludwigsplatz. Participants in the costumed procession are announced through loudspeakers and joyfully greeted by numerous spectators.

On the very border of Austria and Germany there is a small Bavarian city of Passau, located on the banks of the Danube, Inn and Ilz rivers, for which the city received the name "Dreifl? ssestadt - "city of three rivers". All three rivers have different water colors - Blue Danube, Green Inn and Black Ilz. They say that rivers merge almost at one point and even flow for some time without mixing. And the city of Passau is also called the "floating city" and the "Bavarian Venice". Every year on the last weekend of April, Passau hosts a folklore festival in which people from different parts of Germany and even from other European countries take part.
