Shelter of the Holy Spirit

Heilig-Geist-Spital, Heilig-Geist-Spital
Germany, Nuremberg
The orphanage or hospital of the Holy Spirit was built in 1332 on the banks of the Pegnitz River in the Old Town. In the north courtyard of the hospital there is a copy of the Hanselbrunnen Fountain, depicting a musician with a flute and created around 1380. This is the oldest surviving example of hollow bronze casting. On the territory of this hospital, in a small church in the 15th century, the famous Christian relic, the spear of Longinus, was kept. Now there is a nursing home and a small restaurant.

The oldest hospital in Europe (the construction dates back to 1332). The design of the building is interesting - one of its wings is thrown across the river by two arches, which are reflected in the water. That is why the people called the hospital "Nuremberg glasses".
