Viktualienmarkt is a food market in the center of Munich. It operates daily except Sundays and public holidays. The Viktualienmarkt was born when Munich's old city market at Marienplatz became too narrow for the booming city. King Maximilian I on May 2, 1807 instructed the magistrate of the city of Munich to move the market to a new location.
