Königsplatz is a square on the Briennerstrasse street in the city district of Maxvorstadt. Königsplatz was erected by the order of Crown Prince Ludwig in 1815 by the architect Leo von Klenze in the likeness of the ancient forum according to the designs of Karl von Fischer. Construction continued in 1816-1830. According to the wish of the future king of Bavaria, Königsplatz was to become a cultural square in "New Athens on the Isar".
