Alte Oper
Germany, Frankfurt am Main
The Old Opera opened its doors in 1880 with a production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, which was attended by Kaiser Wilhelm I. Built in the Neo-Renaissance style, with a pediment reminiscent of Greek porticos, the Opera became a true gem of the city. The building was badly damaged during the Second World War and for 36 years there were ruins in its place. On the initiative of local residents, in 1981 the Old Opera House was restored. Behind the historical façade lies an ultra-modern complex, where symphonic and chamber music concerts, song and dance programs and various conferences are held.
In front of the building there is an elegant fountain in the style of classicism, which has become a favorite meeting place for the people of Frankfurt. By phone you can order a tour of the building of the Old Opera House.
