Römerberg Square is the historic center of Frankfurt am Main with the symbol of the city located on it -
Römer Town Hall. In the Middle Ages, the coronation of German Kaisers took place here, the famous Frankfurt Fair was held here. Destroyed during the bombings of 1944, the Römerberg buildings were restored in 1986, preserving their architectural and historical appearance.
The center of the square is decorated with another symbol of Frankfurt am Main - a fountain with a bronze statue of the Goddess of Justice. In the southern part of the square there is the Gothic church of St. Nicholas, next to it is the entrance to the Historical Museum, near which there is a monument to Charlemagne, created in 1843. A round bronze memorial plaque is built into the pavement, installed in memory of the burning of books on the square by the Nazis on May 10, 1933 .
One of the most beautiful and largest Christmas markets in Germany is held on the square.
