Bridge of Shopkeepers

Krämerbrücke, Krämerbrücke
Germany, Erfurt
The Shopkeeper's Bridge is a unique attraction and one of the most famous places in the city of Erfurt. It is notable for the fact that it is the only bridge in Europe built up with houses, cafes and many shops. It was built back in the 11th century and served to cross the Gera River. In subsequent years, the bridge and the houses on it were repeatedly rebuilt after the destruction caused by fires and wars.

The Shopkeeper's Bridge is an exclusive attraction in Erfurt. The bridge is 120 meters long and is the longest built-up bridge in Europe. Today in the houses on the bridge Kr? merbr? cke there are souvenir shops and antique shops. A bit of history Kr? merbr? cke. A wooden bridge stood on this site already in the 11th century. But after numerous fires, in the 13th century the wooden bridge was replaced with a stone version. Initially, there were 64 houses on the bridge, but as the buildings were enlarged, their number was reduced to 32.
