Petersberg Fortress is an example of a well-preserved medieval citadel, not only in Germany, but throughout Europe. It was erected during the religious wars between Catholics and Protestants (17th century). Actively participated in the Napoleonic Wars of the early 18th century. Later, Petersberg lost its defensive significance and no longer took part in wars. It is definitely worth climbing here to get acquainted with the historical site of Erfurt and for panoramic views of the city from the observation deck.
