I really wanted to visit the gallery and the dream came true. Now the gallery is being renovated and only 3 halls on the 1st floor are open. Entrance 6 euros. Significant paintings of the gallery are brought there and, indeed, the Sistine Madonna must be seen live.

I won't call this place #1 in Germany because Germany is big and diverse. There is a Museum Island in Berlin, there is the Alte Pinakothek in Munich and much more, BUT I consider visiting the Dresden Old Masters Gallery a must. And it's not just the Sistine Madonna. She is certainly good and great, and the angels live their very successful lives. It’s just that apart from her there are a lot of interesting and monumental works, well, Rubens, for example. 3 hours? Yes, you are joking. I've been to Dresden 3 times, each time I went to the Gallery and didn't even see half of it! It is clear that not everyone is interested.

For me, Dresden is associated with the "Sistine Madonna". The main priority was to visit the Dresden Gallery. I went without a guide, but with homemade preparations. And if you don’t have time to prepare from home, don’t despair, downstairs near the ticket offices they sell a book (available in Russian) of the main masterpieces, a description, a photo and in which hall it is located. The gallery is not big, about 3 hours will be enough to see.

The creation of the gallery was initiated by the Saxon king Frederick the Wise in the 16th century. Today there are works by Titian, Rubens, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Dü rer and many others. Advice. Before going to any museum, take the time to find out the minimum information about the works presented there. The pleasure of contact with the beautiful then increases at times (tested empirically) The entrance fee is 10 euros. The ticket is also valid at the Armoury, the Porcelain Collection and for temporary exhibitions at the Art Gallery of the Old Masters.
