Reichstag building

Reichstagsgebäude, Reichstag building
Germany, Berlin
The Reichstag, a majestic Renaissance building built over a century ago, is today the seat of the German parliament, the Bundestag. This building survived a lot in the twentieth century. - was almost destroyed during the Second World War, then restored, served as a small historical museum, but still it has not lost its original meaning and to this day is the building of the German Parliament. In 1995–1999 The Reichstag was reconstructed by the English architect N. Foster, who preserved the historical appearance of the building, modernized and improved the functionality of the premises, and also built a huge glass dome with an observation platform. Currently, the interior and the dome of the Reichstag are open to the public only by appointment on the website of the Bundestag. During a free tour of the building, visitors will be shown the premises and halls where meetings and voting take place, the Wall of Memory with preserved inscriptions of Soviet soldiers (as a symbol of victory over fascism), the Bundestag archive and a glass dome with an observation terrace overlooking Berlin.

Honestly? I expected more...To get into the building you need to go through several checks, there are a lot of guards in the building, you are under constant escort. But they show, in fact, non-working parts of the building. Therefore, you will not see the life and work of the most important unit of government in the country. The view from the top is so-so. You can visit, but rather "for show". It is unlikely that you will really like the attraction.

In the Bundestag, everything is thought out to the smallest detail. The building is divided into levels according to the principle of transparency and expediency. The parliament sits on the ground floor, the level for visitors is on top. And even higher - a roof-terrace and an impressive transparent dome. Transparency in everything is a symbol of greatness and unity. The building uses high technology - special mirror panels are equipped with filters that are controlled by computer programs. With their help, the amount of daylight that enters the plenary hall is regulated.
