The Tiergarten is the oldest and largest park in Berlin. From the 16th century in its place were royal hunting grounds - this is the reason for its name "Tiergarten", which means "menagerie". In the 19th century it finally took shape in a landscape park of the English type. The park covers an area of 210 hectares and has a radial-star design: in the center of the park there is the Big Star Square with
Victory Column, and nine alleys radiate from it. In addition to walking paths and manicured lawns, there are many sculptures, monuments and memorials. In the Tiergarten, you can often meet people jogging, doing yoga, walking with children or walking their pets. In summer you can go boating on Lake Neuer See, and in winter you can go ice skating. There are also flea markets, pubs and various cafes. In addition to all this,
Berlin Zoo,
Reichstag Building and other city sights are located near the park.
