Border checkpoint Charlie on the street. Friedrichstrasse served 1961–1990 the transition point for Allied troops from West to East Berlin. It was installed on the border between the American and Russian sectors after the division of the city by the Berlin Wall and became the main symbol of the confrontation between the US and the USSR during the Cold War. Tragic events often took place near this border point, connected with attempts to escape East Germans from the GDR to the FRG. It was closed in 1990 after the reunification of Germany and now it has become an attraction, where tourists often take pictures. In memory of Checkpoint Charlie and the dramatic episode in the history of Berlin associated with it, a photographic exhibition and an installation by artist Frank Thiele are now operating on the site where it once stood. And very close to it is the Museum of the Berlin Wall, which also has an exposition dedicated to this checkpoint.

For a photo with actors

The border checkpoint on Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, created after the division of the city by the Berlin Wall, now looks like a show of costumed actors for tourists. You can take a picture with them for money and put a seal. This is not a must-see place in Berlin.→
