It is a small church, a little gloomy, but it was built in 1882. A special contribution to its construction and maintenance was made by the Grand Duchess of Baden Maria Maximilianovna, nee Romanovskaya-Leuchtemberg, the granddaughter of Emperor Nicholas I, who in 1863 married Prince Wilhelm of Baden. Maria Maksimilianovna died in 1914 and was buried in a crypt under the altar of the Church of the Transfiguration. Princess Tatyana Gagarina, who also patronized the Orthodox community, also rests there. The floor of the crypt is finished with white marble, and the walls are decorated with mosaic ornaments in the Byzantine style. Here you can see the murals by Prince Grigory Gagarin and a copy of the Last Supper fresco from the Vladimir Cathedral in Kyiv, as well as a mosaic icon of the Transfiguration of the Lord above the entrance. In the 80s of the last century, restoration work was carried out.
Over the past 120 years, the church has accumulated a pleasant and peaceful energy. Walking along the Lichtental Alley, you can look here and pray in silence.
