Prague National Museum

Narodni muzeum, Prague National Museum
Czech republic, Prague
The National Museum is the largest state museum in Prague, created at the beginning of the 19th century. The Neo-Renaissance building of the National Museum, with a height of more than 70 meters and a facade length of about 100 meters, was built from 1885 to 1890. The building overlooks Wenceslas Square and is its architectural dominant.

The National Museum is divided into several collections. The building on Wenceslas Square houses only the Museum of Natural Science and History and the Library (1.3 million volumes and 8,000 manuscripts). Collections of the Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Museum. V. Naprstka and the Museum of Physical Culture and Sports are located in other exhibition halls.

On the second floor of the museum there is a historical department (materials from archaeological excavations, coins and medals are of particular value), and on the third floor there is a natural science department.

Prague will not leave anyone indifferent. I definitely want to come back to this city. Personally, in my ranking of cities, Prague is in the top three. Cultural monuments, the atmosphere, the attitude of the locals, the most delicious food - all this and not only makes it unforgettable. One of the advantages is that the majority of the population understands the Russian language and speaks it fluently, and if there is a fear of a language barrier, then a visit to Europe should definitely start from Prague.

The Neo-Renaissance building, built in 1891, dominates the upper part of Wenceslas Square. Since its construction, the building has not been rebuilt, it has suffered significant damage twice: in 1945 and 1968, Soviet tankers took it for a government building and opened fire. The ongoing reconstruction is aimed at preserving an important national cultural monument and transforming it into a modern museum object. The opening of the museum is scheduled for 2018.
