Campa Island

Kampa
Czech republic, Prague
Prague's Kampa Island is located near Charles Bridge. On the one hand, the banks of the Kampa are washed by the waters of the Vltava, and on the other, by the Chertovka, a stream artificially created to set the mill wheel in motion.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Prague, in its southern part there is a park, and in the northern part there is a baroque palace and buildings in the Renaissance style. No wonder Kampa is called the Venice of Prague.

This territory is separated from Malaya Strana by the ancient Chortivka canal, about 900 meters long. The name of the island is probably preserved from the Spanish soldiers who stood here in the 17th century camp (acampar in Spanish and means "camp"). Nearby is crowded with tourists Charles Bridge, and here is a completely different atmosphere. Nobody is in a hurry. The southern half of the island is occupied by a park. In the north - two parallel streets with numerous cafes, hotels and bars. The main building on the banks of the Vltava - Liechtenstein Palace.

At the Camp, I always really want to break out of the crowd of people on Charles Bridge. What awaits at the Camp? Alleys, neat houses, museum, various installations and magnificent views of the Vltava and Prague. And restaurants and cafes. And of course, you need to find water to make the walk a success.

There is one romantic place on the island of Kampa, which the Praguers themselves call "Little Venice". Only the Chertovka River plays the role of a canal here (according to legend, the river was named so in honor of one very evil owner of the tavern). Once upon a time, three water mills were installed on the river. Unfortunately, only one wheel has survived to this day.
