Museum of Kampa Sova Mlyna

Museum Kampa, Sova's Mills, Sovovych mlynu
Czech republic, Prague
The Museum of Contemporary Art Kampa is located on the island of Kampa in the historical building of the Owl Mills. The first memory of the Owl Mills dates back to the 15th century, the building survived several fires and wars, and is rightfully considered the national cultural heritage of the country.

For some time, the Owl Mills were in decline, but in 2000-2001, with the help of local authorities, the complex was reconstructed. The museum was opened in 2003 on the initiative of patron Meda Mladek, who donated most of the exhibits for it.

The Kampa Museum has three permanent exhibitions: Central European contemporary art, an exhibition of works by František Kupka and an exhibition of sculptures by Otto Gutfreund. The museum also regularly hosts short-term exhibitions of contemporary art by artists such as Yoko Ono and František Kupka.

The Kampa Museum opened in Prague in 2003 and was delayed for almost a year due to severe flooding in August. It occupies the recently renovated Owl Mills building. After the reconstruction, modern architectural elements were added to the historical part dating back to the 14th century, which revived the building and gave it a unique charm. The following expositions are constantly operating here: abstract works by Františ ek Kupka; a collection of works by Cubist sculptor Otto Gutfroind; collection of Central European contemporary art.

Kampa Museum is one of the locations for funny photos on Kampa Island. In the yard you can watch various installations for free. And the famous march of yellow penguins over Kampa. Unexpectedly for myself, I visited this museum in 2013. We were in Prague after the flood. In the subway and on the streets they saw advertisements for the exhibition, which presents works by Klimt, Mukha, Kupka. The exhibition was held to raise money for the renovation of the museum after the flood. The main part of the exhibition is drawings and sketches.

For a cursory, concise and free option for viewing part of the exposition of the Kamp Museum, it is enough to go into its courtyard. There is always something to be surprised, something to stun and something to smile at!
