The stone bridge was built in 1898-1901 according to the design of Antonin Bolshanek on the site of the old chain bridge of Franz Joseph I. Material - granite and sandstone. Engineers Jiri Soukup and Josef Jan took part in the construction of the bridge. The relief decoration of the bridge is from the workshops of Willem Amort and Josef Paloush. Reliefs of crafts and floral ornaments of cast-iron lighting poles - the work of sculptor Gustav Zul.

The bridge is 343 meters long and about 16 meters wide. The four towers on either side of the bridge with baroque domes and coats of arms were the workplaces of the servants who collected tolls. Cast iron lanterns decorated with relief images of crafts and floral ornaments are installed along the entire length of the bridge.

Initially, the bridge, like the old one, was named after Franz Joseph I. In 1918, it was renamed after the Czechoslovak Legions of the First World War - volunteer formations that fought in the armies of France, Italy and Russia.
