Church of the Virgin Mary the Victorious

Czech republic, Prague
Roman Catholic church of the early Baroque era, located in the historical district of Mala Strana. The religious building was built in 1611 on the initiative of the Lutherans. However, 13 years later, the church was donated by Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II to the Order of Discalced Carmelites, who reconstructed and built a monastery. The current facade of the church has not changed at all since the arrival of the Carmelites. In the 18th century, the temple changed owners again when the Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II dissolved the monastery and transferred its property to the Order of Malta. However, two centuries later, in 1993, the monastery, together with the church, was finally returned to the Carmelites. The church became widely known among pilgrims thanks to the old wooden statuette of little Jesus kept in it, called "Ezulatko". According to beliefs, she keeps from adversity and is able to heal serious ailments. The figurine has two crowns and dozens of outfits that change depending on the season.

On Carmelitska Street there is an outstanding architectural monument that reflects the medieval spirit of Prague. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world flock here to pray and worship the sacred figure of Christ kept in the Church of the Virgin Mary the Victorious. The church was built in the early XVII century on the initiative of Lutheran Germans and named after the Holy Trinity. It was one of the first small-scale buildings in the Baroque style, but the name of its creator has not survived.
