The name of the Jewish quarter of Josefov comes from the name of Emperor Joseph II, whose reforms improved the living conditions of Jews in Prague. The quarter is located between the right bank of the Vltava and the Old Town Square. Remains of an ancient Jewish ghetto are located on its territory. Between 1893 and 1913, much of the neighborhood's buildings were destroyed during the clearing and redevelopment of the former Jewish slums and the construction of new wide streets. The new majestic houses were inhabited mainly by Czechs, and the share of Jews in the population of the quarter was constantly declining.→
