Market Colonnade
Trzni kolonada, Shopping colonnade
Czech republic, Karlovy Vary
In 1883, on the site between the old and new spring outlets at the foot of the Castle Hill and the old town hall building, a temporary Swiss-style wooden building was built (designed by the Fellner and Gelmer firm, realized by the master carpenter Osterreicher from Vienna for 12,000 gold pieces). In 1991-1992, an exact copy of this building was made, the cost of which exceeded 22 million Czech crowns.
The wooden colonnade shelters the sources of the Market and Charles IV springs, and concerts and other cultural events take place there. The city assumes in the future its connection with the Castle and Mill colonnade.
The springs, which for a long time gushed at the foot of the rocky massif, on which a small hunting castle was once built, were used first. The founder of the city, Charles IV, treated his wounds in a local spring. The remains of the source bowl can still be seen in the dungeon.
