Czech republic, Karlovy Vary
The Mill Colonnade, the largest in the city, is located right on the embankment of the Tepla River, was built in 1871–81 according to the design of the famous Czech architect Josef Zitek, the author of the National Theater in Prague.
The colonnade is one of the symbols of Karlovy Vary, despite the fact that at the time of its construction, the locals did not like it very much. Initially, the architect was going to build a building on 3 floors, but due to an acute shortage of funds, he began to build a more simplified version. In 1893, the colonnade was extended to the Rock Spring and thus reached 132 meters in length and 13 meters in width; in 1982 it was reconstructed.
