Karlovy Vary Local History Museum
Museum of History and Local Lore of Karlovy Vary, Muzeum Karlovy Vary
Czech republic, Karlovy Vary
The building, which now houses the Karlovy Vary Museum, was built in 1853 for the county government. The museum consists of two parts - local history and historical.
The local history part includes collections of rock minerals, as well as samples of the fauna and flora of the Karlovy Vary region. The historical part presents exhibits from the Stone Age, including items from the Bronze Age, as well as ceramics and other utensils from medieval Slavic settlements in this area. Here you can also feel the atmosphere of the revolutionary Hussite movement in the first half of the 15th century, see medical works, historical documents and household items of the 15th-18th centuries, a model of the city in 1650, an exposition on the history of local weapons production, which reached notable heights in its time.
One of the halls is devoted to the history of the development of the porcelain and glass-blowing industries that have flourished here to this day. A special place in the museum is occupied by documents about the time when the Russian Tsar Peter 1 visited the resort of Karlovy Vary.
