In 2008, as part of the celebration of World Water Day (March 22), Limassol hosted the opening of the island's first Water Museum and Center for the Development of Water Consciousness.
The building that houses the museum dates back to the 1930s. It housed a pumping station that served to supply the city with water. In 2007 the building was restored. Its new look is a synthesis of old architecture, modern architectural elements and new technologies. In front of the stone walls of the old building, there are new walls made of glass, in which water continuously circulates. Thus, being inside the premises, visitors feel the strong presence of the water element.
