Church of St. Catherine
St.Catherine's Church
Cyprus, Limassol
The Catholic Church of St. Catherine, built in Limassol in 1879, is dedicated to St. Catherine. The architect Friar Francescoda Mongidoro from Bologna created it in the European artistic style typical of such buildings. In the interior, he used the Baroque style, and for the design of the facade, built in the form of a portico, he chose an eclectic style. The apse walls and vaults are decorated with neo-Byzantine style frescoes created during the restoration in 1979.
This church with two towers rises above the beach, towards the end of the Limassol promenade. This is one of the few Catholic churches on the island.
The temple is active, masses are held daily in it.
