Boulevard Prado
Paseo del Prado, Paseo del Prado
Cuba, Havana
The boulevard extends in a northerly direction from the Central Park to the sea coast with the Castillo de la Punta.
Prado Boulevard is one of the pearls of the Cuban capital, although back in the 18th century this street was outside the walls of the city, and only in the 1770s, by order of the Marquis de la Torre, a boulevard was laid from the city gates towards the sea, which soon became very popular among aristocracy, who loved to make horse rides on it. The 19th century gave the boulevard cobblestones, marble paving slabs and street lamps. Prado served as a venue for military parades and processions. When the Havana Capitol was being built in 1927-1929, a large-scale reconstruction of Central Park and Prado Boulevard was carried out.
The architecture of the boulevard is mostly two- or three-storey houses built in a colonial style, with barred balconies and a pervasive influence of the culture of the metropolis - Spain. On the boulevard there are such interesting buildings as the Sevilla Hotel, the House of Science, the Wedding Palace. The National Capitol stands out among others.
