The Grand Theater of Havana is the home stage of the Cuban National Ballet. The theater building also houses various concert halls, theater stages, galleries, etc. The official opening date is April 15, 1838.
The modern building was built in 1914-1915 according to the project of the Belgian architect of Transylvanian origin Paul Belau in the colonial baroque style and is known as the Palace of the Galician Center. The theater was called Tacon for a long time and only in 1985 was renamed the Bolshoi Theater at the suggestion of the outstanding Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso. 1500 seats make the theater one of the largest in the world.
