The Old Beijing Observatory is an astronomical observatory from the pre-telescopic era. The instruments of this observatory, revolutionary for their time, were created in 1442 during the Ming Dynasty and improved during the Qing Dynasty.
The entire observatory covered an area of 10,000 sq.m. Its astronomical platform is located on a 15 m high stone platform and is a 40 by 40 m square. This stone tower is a preserved part of the Ming dynasty fortification wall that surrounded the city at that time.
Currently, the observatory is a museum that is part of the Beijing Planetarium.
