The Chinese Aviation Museum is the only one in China and the largest aviation museum in Asia, located at the foot of Datangshan Mountain in Beijing's Changping District.
The museum was first opened on November 11, 1989, it was founded in honor of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the PRC Air Force. The complex is partially located inside the caves of Datanshan, which were originally part of the Shahe air base bunker system. The total length of the tunnels is 586 meters with a width of 40 meters and a height of 11 meters.
The museum stores more than 300 aircraft, more than 200 types of helicopters, more than 13,000 samples of other weapons, among which there are cultural monuments of national importance. Most of the exhibits date back to the period of the formation of the People's Republic, as well as to the times of the Korean and Cold Wars.
