Great Bell Temple is a Buddhist temple on Beisanhuang Road. It was built in 1733 under the Yongzheng Emperor of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
The temple is named after the Yongle bell in the temple, cast during the reign of Yongle (1403-1424) of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The sound of the bell reaches 120 decibels and is heard 50 km from the temple. Many music experts, including those from the Institute of Acoustics, found the sound to be rich, deep and melodic. Its frequency ranges from 22 to 800 hertz.
