Tombs of the Emperors of the Ming Dynasty - a complex of mausoleums of thirteen emperors of the Chinese Ming Dynasty (XV-XVII centuries). The complex is located on the slopes of the Tianshou Mountains in the Changping District of the Beijing Region, 50 km north of the center of Beijing. Thirteen mausoleums are located on one site, fenced off from prying eyes by a high wall, and have a common "sacred road" (shendao), lined with statues of real and mythical animals.
This mausoleum complex is one of the main components of the World Heritage Site "Tombs of the Emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties." In the 20th century, three tombs were opened and examined by archaeologists, however, in 1989, archaeological research on the territory of the complex was stopped and has not been resumed since then.
