Volcano Ma An

Ma Ahn Volcano
China, Hainan
It is located 14 km southwest of Qiongshan and 27 km from the capital city of Haikou. The last volcanic eruption occurred about 40-50 thousand years ago. It is one of the best preserved extinct volcanoes in the world. In the vicinity, 72 grottoes were counted, formed as a result of a heap of igneous rocks. Nearby are the craters of the active volcanoes Leihuling and Luojingpan.

The steps to the crater are made of volcanic magma, the diameter of the crater is protected by a railing and equipped as an observation deck from which you can look inside the crater. The mouth of the crater is a solidified lava, overgrown with dense shrubs and tropical species of relic plants. The whole area is arranged in the form of a park, below there is an open-air restaurant in a palm grove. In front of the restaurant there is a large stage area where evening folklore performances of the natives of the island - the Li and Miao peoples - are held.
