The monument to the outstanding Russian writer Vladimir Nabokov, the work of the sculptor Rukavishnikov, was erected on the occasion of the writer's centenary in 1999. The initiators were the owners of the prestigious Montreux-Palace Hotel, where the writer spent the last years of his life (1960 - 1977) after, having received a significant amount for the film rights to his sensational work "Lolita", he became a wealthy man and was able to afford the choice of location residence at will. Prior to that, he led a very modest life in the United States on a small amount from lecturing. Initially, the monument was erected in the hotel lobby, but the number of fans turned out to be impressive and the monument was taken out to the square in front of the hotel on the shores of Lake Geneva. The writer himself and his wife were buried near Montreux in the town of Clarens.
