Swiss National Museum
Schweizerisches Nationalmuseum Landesmuseum, Swiss National Museum
Switzerland, Zurich
The Swiss National Museum is located between the Central Station and the Platzspitz park in a castle-like building with turrets and courtyards. The museum is dedicated to the historical and cultural development of Switzerland, its production, customs, arts and crafts. Museum collections consist of items from the prehistoric period; collections of coats of arms and stained glass, Christian wooden sculptures and carved altars. There are also robes, weapons and items from the Middle Ages and chivalry, a series of historical interiors, porcelain and faience and, of course, Swiss watches. The Swiss National Museum also includes other institutions located in different parts of Zurich - these are the Zunfthaus zur Meissen, the Collections Gallery, the diorama of the Battle of Murten, the Coin Office and the Armory Tower. The museum has a library with free access to the reading room and a small cafe.
