Mountain and park Mont-Royal
Mont Royal
Canada, Montreal
Mont-Royal - a mountain with three peaks, 233, 211 and 201 meters high - one of the symbols of Montreal. In 1876, on the slopes of the mountain, a park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the author of Central Park in New York. Mont-Royal Park is popular with Montreal residents who come to walk and get some fresh air, have a picnic, go skiing in winter. From two park viewing platforms, you can enjoy views of the city, the St. Lawrence River, the Olympic Stadium and the outlying surroundings.
The Montreal Catholic Cross, 31 meters high, is installed on Mont-Royal, visible in the evening from anywhere in Montreal, thanks to LED illumination. Here is the prayer house of St. Joseph, a place of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of Catholics. On the mountain, outside the park, there are two 19th-century cemeteries included in the register of National Historic Places of Canada.
