Paqueta Island is a remote area of Rio de Janeiro, located in the middle of Guanabara Bay, 15 km from the city, where you can reach by ferry in a little over an hour. The island with an area of 1.2 km2 is inhabited by about four thousand people. On the island it is not allowed to travel by private cars, there are practically no paved roads. To explore the island, you can rent a bicycle or horse-drawn carriage. Here, in tropical vegetation, villas are hidden, mostly built at the beginning of the last century, there are many cafes and restaurants, shops and salons designed for tourists, there are beautiful beaches. One of the attractions of Paqueta Island is the Fat Mary Baobab, which is over 350 years old. There is also a "Stone of Lovers" on the island. According to legend, if lovers throw pebbles on him from the sea, they will be together forever. There is also a cemetery of songbirds that died in captivity on the island.
