Tijuca National Park was created in 1961 by combining into one structure the territory of the Tijuca forest of 32 km², the Pedra da Gavea rock, 842 meters high and the Corcovado mountain with
the statue of Christ the Redeemer . The park is characterized by diverse landscapes, waterfalls, more than 1600 species of plants grow here and more than 350 species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians live here. In the forest part of the Tijuca National Park, there are hiking trails and picnic areas. The natural beauty of Tijuca Park is admired by three million visitors every year.
