The National Historical Museum was opened in 1973 and is one of the largest museums of its kind in the Balkans. The museum is located on the outskirts of Sofia, in a separate building of the Boyana residence. The museum's collection includes more than 650 thousand exhibits that acquaint visitors with the history of Bulgaria from Paleolithic times to the present day. Here are objects related to archeology, history and ethnography, namely: weapons and armor, ancient geographical maps, ceramics, a collection of stamps and coins, religious objects, historical documents and much more. The Thracian treasures (Panagyursky and Rogozensky treasures) attract special attention in the Museum of History - these are various jewelry, weapons, ritual objects and other valuables that were found in burial mounds and burial places on the territory of Bulgaria.
