The National Art Gallery has been located since 1952 in the building of the former royal palace and shares it with the
Ethnographic Museum. The gallery is dedicated to the art of painting and sculpture in Bulgaria from the 14th century. until the 60s. 20th century is a collection of paintings, sculptures and graphics. Works by Z. Boyadzhiev, V. Dimitrov, Z. Zograf, G. Mashev, N. Raynov, I. Dospevsky, G. Datsev and other Bulgarian masters are exhibited here. The exposition of ancient Bulgarian art is mainly represented by icons and is located in the crypt of the
Alexander Nevsky Church. Also, various events are often held within the walls of the art gallery.
