A small medieval Boyana Church is located in the suburbs of Sofia, in the village. Boyana. It is surrounded by a small park and consists of three buildings built at different times: a single-domed church of the 11th century, a two-story "Kaloyanov" church-tomb of the 13th century. and a porch of the 19th century. The Boyana Church is widely known for its well-preserved frescoes of the 13th century, which depict various religious and everyday subjects, as well as historical portraits of the Sevastokrator Kaloyan and his wife. Each image of the wall paintings is individual and quite clearly spelled out - small details, emotions, luxurious attire and facial features of the figures depicted here are striking. The Boyana Church has an important historical and cultural value not only for Bulgaria, but for the whole world.
