The rectangular Royal Square is a historic square in the center of Brussels. It was built in the second half of the 18th century. on the site of the burnt palace of the Dukes of Brabant and at the same time in its center, a statue of Charles-Alexander of Lorraine was installed. During the French Revolution, the square lost its monument - and only in the middle of the 19th century. there again appeared an equestrian bronze monument, but this time to Gottfried of Bouillon. The appearance of the Royal Square is designed in a classic style. Within this square are: the Church of St. James, eight symmetrically arranged pavilions that house the
Royal Museums of Fine Arts, the Bellevue Museum and several government offices.
