Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk, Notre-Dame in Bruges
Belgium, Brugge
The Church of Our Lady in Bruges is a Gothic church in Bruges, Belgium, built in the 12th-13th centuries.
In the church above the pews there are thirty coats of arms of the knights who were present in the church in 1468 at the II Chapter of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The Order of the Golden Fleece or the second name "Gideon's Sign" is a knightly order established by Philip III the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in 1430, on the day of his wedding to Princess Isabella of Portugal. Dynastic order, one of the most ancient and honorary awards in Europe. The status of the order exists to this day in two branches (Spanish and Austrian) and King Philip VI of Spain has the right to award the Spanish branch, and Karl von Habsburg has the right to award the Austrian branch.
In a spacious church with a high tower of 122 m, the only sculpture by Michelangelo, which during his lifetime appeared on the other side of the Alps, is kept - “The Virgin Mary and Child” (“Madonna of Bruges”).
In the choir of the church, protected by a forged lattice, under the crucifixion of 1594, the Duke of Burgundy Charles the Bold and his daughter Mary of Burgundy are buried. The tombstones are made in the Flaming Gothic style.
Some windows of the church have the shape of the Reuleaux triangle, which is the area of intersection of three equal circles with centers at the vertices of a regular triangle and radii equal to its side.

It is the most visited church in the city by tourists. It is located almost in the center and on the road of sightseeing tours, so it is hard to pass by. It is the tallest building in Bruges with a tower of 122 m. The first church built on the site of the modern one dates from the second half of the 9th century. The construction of the Romanesque church was started with the support of Charles the Good, Count of Flanders, around 1100. Much has happened over the centuries, fires and floods, and during the occupation after the French Revolution in 1789, the building was put up for auction.
