Plantin-Moretus Museum
Plantin Moretus Museum
Belgium, Antwerpen
The Plantin-Moretus Museum is dedicated to the famous publishers Christopher Plantin and Jan Moretus and is located in a former printing house founded by Plantin in the 16th century in a building built in the Flemish Renaissance style.
The museum has a truly unique collection: typographic materials, a selection of typographic fonts, 30,000 old books, luxurious tapestries, operating printing presses of the 17th-18th centuries, and two surviving oldest typewriters in the world. Some of the paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, a former customer of the printing house, are also exhibited here.
In 2005, the Plantin-Moretus Museum became the first museum to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
