Australian National Maritime Museum
National Maritime Museum
Australia, Sydney
The Australian National Maritime Museum was due to open in Sydney's Darling Harbor for the 200th anniversary of the State of Australia. But due to the delay in construction, the opening of the museum took place 3 years later - in 1991. The basis of the museum is the museum building itself with 6 permanent exhibitions covering events from the first colonists of Australia to the present day and ships in the harbor - the destroyer "Vampire", the patrol vessel "Endeavor" and the submarine "Onslow". Moored next to them is the 19th-century barque James Craig, which can be visited with a ticket.
On the pier you can also see the former ships of the Royal Australian Navy and some special purpose ships. But their visit is closed to the general public.
Entrance to the museum is free, a ticket is required to visit the temporary exhibitions.
